Officially opened on June 30th, 1968, the "Tower " has become Calgary's most famous and identifiable physical landmark. Even now, the Calgary Tower is still the 3rd tallest structure in the city and a must see on any tourist's itinerary. During the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, an Olympic Torch burned non-stop at the top of the Tower. When the "Torch" is lit on special occasions it brings back fond memories as well as a certain pride in all Calgarians.
